A few weeks ago we took our perfectly healthy Mason in for surgery. He had both of his tear ducts reconstructed and it was a pretty intense process. I'll spare those gory details here! He had a hard time coming out of the anesthesia and so they admitted him for what we were thinking would be 24 hours. Ya right.
As you can imagine he was afraid to try to open his eyes. These are pictures the first day after his surgery.
After the first night we thought he was improving. He didn't want me too far while we were at the hospital. His Dr.'s were pretty concerned about him contracting a bacterial infection at the surgical site. That would be very bad. We've done that before with this same surgery.
We came home the next night to try things out. It didn't work out so much. He had to go back early the morning because of the high fever and strange blister that had formed on his finger. I'm not going to lie when we walked onto the pediatric to meet his Dr. between his rounds and he told me he was keeping him again, I cried. They treated him with very heavy antibiotics for the next few days. I took these pictures on day 3 after his surgery.
By the time they let him come home he was looking pretty good.
Mason doesn't really let me go too far when he is admitted. We are basically Siamese twins when we are at the hospital.
I just feel so bad for the little man. He deals with so much and always has a smile and giggle to give.
Next part of this story... one week after this nightmare Mason rubbed his incision opened on one side. That meant we had to go in for a follow up surgery. His Dr. re-did that left side and re-stitched the right side with sturdier stitches just in case. He was in surgery for almost 2 hours! I was freaking out. When he came out we cuddled for a few hours and they let us go!! So that's what they mean by same day surgery?!! It's pretty nice when it works out that way.
